In a significant development, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar, supported by 17 MLAs, is set to take oath as the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra. This comes shortly after Ajit Pawar expressed his desire to step down as the Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at Raj Bhawan, with Ajit Pawar and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde present at the Governor's residence.
Prior to the oath-taking, Ajit Pawar held a meeting with some party leaders and MLAs at his official residence in Mumbai. Notably, NCP chief Sharad Pawar was unaware of the meeting.
The gathering at Ajit Pawar's residence included senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal and the party's working president Supriya Sule, while state party president Jayant Patil was not in attendance.
